Intergenerational Projects

Viscount Court Windsor, Summer 2006

Residents from Viscount Court in Windsor and pupils from Trinity St. Stephens Primary School worked together on an arts and crafts project in the Spring and Summer of this year.

With some funding from Windsor and Maidenhead Borough Council and the expertise of art teacher, Zeljana Schonauer, A2's Activities Coordinator organised weekly sessions both at the housing scheme and the school over a nine week period.

The residents and their school "buddies" explored themes of travel using an imaginary flying carpet. Memories of residents past travels including war memories and thoughts of future travel were shared using a variety of art media such as acrylics, inks and pastels. The group also tried print making using vinyl, string and card and made some lovely birthday cards which were later sold at Viscount Court's Summer Fete.

The classes were full of excited conversations, lots of laughs and some of wonderful artwork was produced which was also displayed at the fete.

Several of the children now write to their friends at Viscount and residents were invited to the School's Easter Service and their upcoming Christmas Nativity Play and Carol Service.

We are planning to continue working with the school in 2007 on a story telling project……watch this space.

Park Community Partnership

The park community partnership is lead by environmental & regeneration charity – Groundwork Thames Valley.

It formed to regenerate the open space at Lismore Park, and help build on community relations on the estate.

Groundwork was joined in the partnership by landlords, A2, Thames Valley, ASRA and Toynbee. Staff from Slough Borough Council, detached youth workers and staff at James Elliman School were also involved in this project.

Over the past four years the partnership has held consultation events to ensure we were meeting the community’s needs in the drawing up of plans for the new play areas, sports facilities and community garden.

The final stages of the redevelopment are now complete and Slough Borough Council is now working with detached youth workers in the area to build a programme of sporting and arts projects.

The group are now working with Slough Federation.
